Classic Picasso Oil
This painting is instantly recognizable as a Picasso. There is a significant Gallerie Louise Leris certificate verso that suggests it authenticity. Leris was Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler’s stepdaughter. He was Jewish and his Paris gallery handled Picasso’s work and those of many other famous artists for years. Leris began operating the gallery in1940 under her own name in an effort to prevent its works being stolen by the Germans when they captured Paris. Her name on the certificate suggests it was painted after 1940.
