Collection of Old Master Paintings

Do you have a high-end wine cellar?
The Flemish painter David Teniers the younger (1610-1690) is recognized as one of the world’s greatest “old master” artists. This is a collection mostly of Teniers’ tavern scenes. They are ideal for the bar or wine cellar of a great house and you will almost certainly be what your predecessor and his friends thought he was – the only one in the world with almost a dozen “old masters” in his wine cellar. They exist because David Teniers began his career in the early 1600s painting tavern scenes and trading them for food, drink, and a warm place to sleep. Most were painted on wood in the years before painters began using canvas. They typically included the tavern keeper and several of his clients. Teniers subsequently became quite famous and years later won a major commission to paint the Anvers (now Antwerp) night watch in their guard room at about the same time (circa 1642) Rembrandt won the commission to paint the night watch of Amsterdam. This particularly important painting is also available from the same collection. See its separate listing.
